COLOR OF CHANGE SUPPORTS CONGRESS’ REJECTION OF BUDGET THAT UNDERFUNDS COMMUNITIES, RESULTING IN WHITE HOUSE-LED GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN
NATIONAL – Last night, members of Congress rightfully rejected a funding proposal that would cut healthcare and essential services for millions of Americans in order to keep status quo benefits for billionaires.
In response, Color Of Change’s Interim Executive Director Portia Allen-Kyle issued the following statement:
“For months, the American public has demanded that our elected officials put up a fight to preserve funding for services like Medicaid, safeguard the enhanced Affordable Care Act tax credits, and lock in lasting health care protections. At a time when this administration is wreaking havoc across the country with its neo-segregationist agenda, I am encouraged that elected leaders representing millions of people nationwide are fighting to protect funding that serves our communities. The budget proposed by the White House was deeply unserious, and a government shutdown was the last remaining tool to let the White House know that the current proposed terms are unacceptable.”
